Tour the Schooner Chantal Chantal is an auxillary sailing vessel designed for extended
cruising and as a comfortable live-aboard. The heavy displacement
mono-hull is modeled after a traditional trading schooner. The bow is
curved and raked with the beak of a "fiddle-head". The stern has a raked
oval counter. The deck shows moderate sheer with a raised quarterback aft.
The "soft" round bilge and steep rise of floors. Topsides have
considerable flair and the freeboard is moderate to high. The fore deck is
clear except for a raised scuttle providing access below. The pilothouse
has windows across the helm, side and aft. Weather doors on the port and
sarboard sides provide accesss to the pilothouse. The vessel has wheel
steearage from two positions: the pilothouse and on the quarterdeck aft
steering station. A 12" high solid wood bulwark runs full length and a 37"
high taffrail with stain steel stanchions encloses the quarter deck. A
double lifeline is mounted on stainless steel stanchions. Davits are
fitted at the
stern.
![]() Accomodations are spacious. The large stateroom forward and master stateroom aft each feature both double and single bunks. The large main salon has a settee with seating to starboard and the galley to port. The galley includes a refrigerator, propane stove/oven, a double sink and lots of storage space. An enclosed head with a shower, vanity and electric head is aft of the galley on the port side. The raised pilothouse provides a protected steering position with good forward visibility. The large forepeak accomodates a small workshop area and additional storage space.
